Sanity Check

So, I'm trying to be a good sysadmin and expand my horizons a bit. Look at other apps or solutions that might help me do my job, help my employer, etc. Started looking at Zenoss today. In less than five minutes, it has three strikes against it. I haven't even gotten through the install yet. Not looking good.

My w700 laptop returned to work today. It's been a long week. Going from a 17in laptop to a 15in laptop is like going from a the roominess of a bus to a compact car. It was HELL.

What's on your agenda for the weekend? This weekend is shaping up to be a decent - weatherwise -- so perhaps some outdoor activities?

I'm doing some fall cleaning. Going to throw out or donate a whole bunch of old stuff. Plus some studying, some website work, and some Xbox360 gaming action.

It started with a simple question...

"What is the limit on outbound attachments for our email system?"

I had to send some tarballs to a 3rd-party support vendor and was going to send them via email. However, the attachment sizes range from 10-50MB. My teammates came back with "5-15MB". Fine. I'll send it anyway because I'm stubborn like that. The email system promptly kicked back the message and complained about attachment size.

I am indulging myself tonight.  Broke open a bottle of 15yo Scotch Whiskey.  Glen Garioch. 

How do you keep current in your job? Do you read? Attend training classes? Attend industry seminars? How do you get away from work to attend them?

We using Network Manager/IP Edition, aka NMIP, as one of our network management tools. It does a bunch of things very slowly but eventually provides us with maps of our IP backbone. It might also be broken. More after the jump.

I did it. I took the day off. Haven't done any real work all day. No Netcool. No Solaris. Nada. It was pretty awesome.

Ok, I was given a simple task of integrating a couple of Solaris servers into our OpenLDAP/Heimdal authentication system. Piece of cake, you say? Solaris works with LDAP and Kerberos, you say? Not so much.
